New school library opens to support student’s learning
Thanks to our parent and student volunteers, the Mandarin school library is open
to the school community on February 1, 2009. The library is aimed to provide students
with an enriched language and literacy experience.
The school library is administrated by parent volunteers and opens on Saturdays,
10:30am-3pm at our North York main campus. Users of the library need to apply a
library card.
We have received many positive feedbacks from parents and students in the first
month trial period. Students really enjoyed the variety of the books and excitement
of the reading in Chinese. Parents also spoke high about the initiative of encouraging
students to read more. Young children can find many favourite picture books and
cartoon movies, while Jr. grade students enjoy more about story books and comics.
There are also a collection of Chinese culture, history and classic literature,
available for parents, adult students and pre-adult teens.
The library currently holds a collection of nearly 1000 copies of picture books,
story books, DVDs and CDs and Chinese classics. We would like to listen to students
and parents for feedbacks and add new books and resources every year to expand the
library collection.
