The program gives a brief introduction to Chinese culture, history and geography, including a series of three textbooks - Common Knowledge about Chinese Culture, Chinese History, Chinese Geography. The series is bilingual in Chinese and English, not only informative but also interesting through vivid illustrations and story-telling techniques, it is an excellent resource to expand a student’s knowledge and skills in Chinese language and culture.

Location: 211 Steeles E (Bayview/Steels E), @Brebeuf College School, MAP

Class Time: Saturdays, 1:00pm-3:00pm

Tuition Fees: $850/year, materials (3 books) included

Registration Fee: $50 per family, $80 per family

Class Size: 16 students per class

Early Bird Deadline: May 1st, every year. Registration fee waived

Chinese Common Knowledge Contest – Toronto

Every year, many high school students attend the “Chinese Common Knowledge Contest”, sponsored by the Chinese government. Toronto District School Board is the host and organizer of the event in Toronto. Students need to apply to participate in the contest and have the opportunity to win a prize of scholarship of paid summer camp program in China, and to compete with teams from other countries for the final in China.

2011 Contest Schedule: Saturday,April 16, 2011,1:00pm - 3:00pm

Contest Location: Woodbine JHS, 2900 Don Mills Rd (Don Mills/Finch)

Organizer: Toronto District School Board

Qualification: Gr7-Gr 12 students,intermediate to advanced Chinese

Application Fee: $5/person

Application Deadline: April 8th,before 3:00pm.
