Where Mountains Speak and Culture Lives: China Camp 2025

2025-08-21 / By: Toronto Mandarin School
We’re back — tired, happy, and full of stories!

After two unforgettable weeks, China Camp 2025 has officially come to an end. And what a journey it was!

This year, we traveled deep into Yangshuo, where the mountains look like ink paintings and the rivers flow like poetry. But don’t be fooled by the calm beauty — our days were packed with adventures!

We went rock climbing, cave exploring, and river drifting. We sweated, laughed, slipped (sometimes!), and pushed past our limits — and came out stronger.

But China Camp isn’t just about thrills — it’s about culture. We painted traditional fans, learned tea picking and tea making, practiced Chinese martial arts, and even tried block printing. We walked through local villages wearing beautiful ethnic costumes, and chatted with locals in Mandarin. (Yes, ordering snacks in Chinese totally counts!)

One of the best parts? Meeting other students from around the world who are also learning Chinese. New friends, new inside jokes, and some really great bonds were born in Yangshuo!

On our way back to Toronton, we had a chance to visit Guangzhou and Hong Kong, where we saw a very different side of China — busy and modern. From neon lights to night markets, skyscrapers to street food, we saw how old and new China exist side by side.

This trip wasn’t just a travel experience. It was a chance to step out of comfort zones, try weird-but-delicious food, talk to strangers in another language, and discover how much more there is to the world (and to ourselves).

Now we’re back home — maybe a little jet-lagged, maybe still craving bubble tea — but with full hearts and unforgettable memories.

See you next summer!
